This is one of our FAVORITE holidays here at Despaña.
The food, the friends, and of course, the wine. We know not everyone is like us (planning out their drink menu for weeks in advance) so here is a quick
6-pack of wine that will cover your bases from stuffing to pie.
Vinyes Singulars “Toma Castanya Ancestral”
A fun “petnat” style of wine with frothy bubbles. 100% Xarello partially aged in chestnut barrels in an underground cellar. Subtle notes of chestnuts and almondsmix with a slightly creamy-toasty mid-palate and clean finish There is a reason the song goes, “Chestnuts roasting by an open fire…” and this bottle is delicious.
Aliaga Lagrima de Garnacha Rosado 2016
Sure the summer is over, but drinking pink wine is not! We knew when we tasted this bottle is would be perfect for the holiday spread. It’s so beautifully balanced and a no-brainer with turkey and all of the sides.
Lobarzan IS Blanco 2013
There is a chill in the air and a heck of a lot of butter in your Aunt Linda’s mashed potatoes. You’ll need a white that has a little structure. Some curves. Something that can see the gravy boat from a mile away and not bat an eye. This is Godello aged French oak.
Velvety but not overdone.
We’ve picked 2 - a lighter and a fuller.
Casal de Arman Ribeiro Tinto is a Galician blend of only native grapes (34% Brancellao, 33% Caiño Longo & 33% Sousón) in stainless steel. Medium-light with vibrant acidity and savory red fruit.
(Ham & Turkey and cranberry relish? No problem).
If that bottle of Protos looks old school, it’s because they released the 2014 “27” Edition, with the original labels of the Bodega. Tinto Fino aged in New French oak for 16 months and another year in bottle before release. This has the power and strength you’d expect, much like how we hope the Giants will play on Thanksgiving night!
Pumpkin Pie, Bourbon-Pecan Pie, cookies, cheeses...before you run for the hard stuff, finish off the night with a little something rich and viscous. Bodegas 501 “Gades Pedro Ximenez” lingers with notes of figs, coffee, and honeyed raisins with oranges.
There won’t be a drop left, trust us.
All for under $215 (including tax).
