Bodega Lanzaga
As pioneer winemaker Telmo Rodríguez sees it, the future of Rioja is in the hands of winemakers willing to rediscover the distinctive individuality of village expression, to move away from the “traditional” system that focuses on aging.
In an effort to rediscover the individuality of regional expressions on a much smaller scale, knowledge that has been largely lost over the last century, Bodega Lanzaga was created in 1998, acquiring just over 15 hectares in Rioja Alavesa, near the villages of Lanciego and Labastida, historical places with a rich tradition of viticulture. The essence of the village is the best way to understand the true nature of Rioja.
“All my work since the beginning has been focused on places, not brands. Our wines are not made by winemakers, they’re made by grape growers. These people control the vineyards. Once you understand your place, you know how to work.”
“We haven’t defined the taste of Rioja yet.”
"We dream of making the best Rioja wine of the 18th century."
