Puro Rofe is the brainchild of Rayco Fernandez who united a team of winemakers (Rafael (Chicho) Mota, Ascension Robayna, and Pedro Umpiérrez) in love with the raw materials of Lanzarote. Old school winemaking – lagars, basket presses, concrete vats, amphorae – meets passion, dedication and vision.
Suertes del Marqués
One of our featured winemakers for our late summer exclusive sale, Jonatan Garcia Lima created a grand cru system for the braided vines growing in the distinctive soils of Tenerife. All work is done by hand and organically farmed – indigenous yeast fermentations, neutral oak, whole clusters, minimal racking and added S02. The wines are versatile, pure, transformative.
Winemakers Roberto Santana, Alfonso Torrente, Laura Ramos, and José Martínez want you to wine yourself, and can think of no better way to do that than with the pure wines of Tenerife. Organically farmed – wild yeasts, whole clusters, foot-trodden, hand-picked – a natural approach seeking to bring out the defining characteristics of each parcel. These wines are honest, transporting, evocative.
Another forward-thinking winemaker on Tenerife is Pablo Matallana, who has been revitalizing old vineyards since 2015. Pablo bottled his first wines in Lanzarote in 2018 near Timanfaya National Park. The vines are cultivated in either walled holes (hoyos) or trenches (zanjas) and grow through volcanic ash (picón). The wines are wildly refreshing and complex, utterly captivating.
Dolores Cabrera Fernández
The D.O. of Valle de la Orotova was established in 1995, partly due to the mission of Dolores Cabrera who is an evangelist for eco-responsible winemaking in Tenerife. She practices biodiversity, enriching the vines throughout the steep slopes that overlook the Atlantic. Fertile soils are the building blocks for earthy, textured wines that continue to make a magnetic impact.
