Thanksgiving: Thirsty yet?

As we all try to figure out what to drink for our Thanksgiving feasts, keep in mind one golden rule:

Drink whatever you’d like!

Since we are a Spanish wine and spirits shop, we like to keep it Spanish, but if you want to mix it up with your French, American, Italian, Australian, German, or South American bottles, it’s okay to slip in a Spanish bottle or two.

Spanish wines are designed to be enjoyed on their own or with cuisines from around the world.

Aside from the usual red (tinto) and white (blanco) wines and perhaps a sparkler for a toast, there are so many other options to consider for each stage of the celebratory meal.

Basque and Asturian sidras are great alternatives to sparkling wines. The ease of pouring a vermut into a glass, garnished with a simple orange wedge works great as guests arrive. And don’t forget our dear friend sherry – a fino or manzanilla whets the appetite just right.

For reds and whites, choose wines with moderate acidity and ABV levels – they will work well with a variety of the dishes served. A nice rosado can bridge any gaps, especially with salads, a tough nut to crack with a wine pairing.

This is a nice time to whip out those magnums, wine for the masses.

When dessert rolls around, look to sherry again, or back to a sparkler or other dessert wines from the Canaries or Jumilla (we also carry a special dessert sidra – just ask). And the Spanish are known for a variety of libations (pacharan, orujo, rum, brandy, whisky – yes even Basque whisky) for sobremesa, the time spent talking and telling stories around the table after a long repast.

Pop into the shop for a chat and we’ll help you plan it all out so all you have to worry about is how much tinned fish and jamón you’re picking up next door at our sister café.
