Lindes de Remelluri

Lindes de Remelluri (Borders of Remelluri)

Remelluri, an historic landscape where vines have been cultivated since the 14th century, is world renowned for iconic wines representative of authentic expression of the distinct terruños of Rioja Alavesa.  Since Telmo Rodríguez and Amaia Rodríguez Hernandorena, together with winemaker Pablo Eguzkiza, took over the reins from their father in 2009.   The majestic Remelluri winery has focused on estate bottled wines to be made with only their own fruit.

However, there were still long-standing contracts with local farmers who had been supplying the estate for many years.  To honor these farmers, Telmo and Amaia created Lindes de Remelluri (borders of Remelluri), a collaborative, social initiative at Remelluri winery to emphasize the identity of the village-specific wines of Rioja represented by small grower viticulture from traditional villages in Rioja Alavesa.

The first vintage was in 2010 when they created two cuvées to express the specific terruños of two villages in Rioja Alavesa, San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida.  With the goal of widening the scope, Lindes de Remelluri now includes four other village expressions: Salinillas de Buradón, Rivas de Tereso, Peciña, and Ábalos (in a special partnership with the Marqués de Legarda). Lindes de Remelluri were the first wines of Rioja to carry the names of the villages directly on the labels.

The growers for Lindes de Remelluri practice organic, biodynamic, and regenerative vineyard practices and minimal intervention in the cellar.

“Winery in the back, village in the front.” – Telmo
