Marqués de Riscal

Marqués de Riscal

Bodega de los Herederos del Marqués de Riscal is one of the first wineries in Rioja. Founded in 1858 by D. Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga, he first bottled Marqués de Riscal wines in 1862.

Located in Elciego, Rioja Álavesa, this pioneering bodega became renowned for utilizing the Bordeaux system of oak barrel aging, establishing a reputation for crafting wines that could be aged in the cellar for decades.

The original bodega cellar (The Cathedral) houses ancient wines dating back to its first vintage. Today, the bodega owns 540 hectares of vineyards in La Rioja.

The Marqués de Riscal City of Wine was inaugurated in 2006 and includes a hotel designed by the famous Canadian architect Frank O. Gehry.  It offers the experience of exploring the history of the bodega since its foundation in 1858 to the modern day.
