Muga

Muga

The Muga family has been involved in wine production in La Rioja Alta for generations.  The foundation of underground cellars was founded by Isaac Muga Martinez and Aurora Caño in 1932.  The modern bodega and facilities are now located in the historic Barrio de La Estación in Haro.

Their vineyards, together with plots under contract with individual farmers, are located at the foot of the Montes Obarenses, where the vines that grow in the clay and limestone soils at varying elevations are exposed to Mediterranean, Atlantic and Continental climates.

Bodegas Muga spans over 620 acres of vineyards with an additional 370 acres contracted to farmers.  Red wine varietals are anchored by tempranillo, and supplemented with garnacha, mazuelo and graciano.  White varietals include viura and Malvasia.

Innovation and authenticity are at the core of Muga’s winemaking philosophy.  An important aspect of the winery is its in-house cooperage run by professional barrel craftsmen, one of the key components of Muga’s signature style.
