Nanclares y Prieto

“… search for wines with enjoyment in mind, wines that speak about their homeland, their origin, their climate and, why not about ourselves.”

The story of Nanclares y Prieto Viticultores begins in the coastal heart of Val do Salnés, the historic epicenter of Rías Baixas. In the early 1990s, Alberto Nanclares left behind his career as an economist in Madrid and moved to the small seaside village of Castrelo. Drawn to the Atlantic landscape, he began tending the Albariño vines surrounding his home, gradually immersing himself in the rhythms of vineyard life. What started as a personal project soon evolved into a serious pursuit; by 1997, Nanclares had transformed his garage into a tiny winery and began bottling wines that expressed the salty air, granite soils, and maritime freshness of the region.

Over the following years, Nanclares slowly acquired and restored small vineyard parcels scattered throughout the Salnés Valley, focusing on old vines and traditional pergola-trained Albariño. His philosophy centered on organic farming, careful manual work in the vineyard, and restrained cellar practices that allowed the character of each site to speak clearly in the glass.

A new chapter began in 2015 when Nanclares partnered with Galician viticulturist Silvia Prieto. Sharing a commitment to ecological farming and terroir-driven winemaking, the two expanded the project while deepening its focus on vineyard expression. Today, Nanclares y Prieto cultivates a mosaic of small plots across Val do Salnés, crafting precise, mineral-driven Albariños that capture the wild Atlantic spirit of Galicia.
