R. López de Heredia
Since 1877, four generations of the López de Heredia family have maintained the tradition of crafting “Supreme Rioja” wines.
D. Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta began the design and construction of the bodega in 1877, the oldest in Haro, and one of the first in Rioja. The buildings above ground together with the vaulted underground cellars combine to manifest as a cathedral to wine. Cobwebbed corridors and winding staircases serve as a time travel portal, where magic and mystery thrive, wines being nurtured to maturity in natural harmony with the environment. From these cellars the wines age gracefully, until they are ready to be released unto the world to be enjoyed, like drinking time in the bottle.
Vineyard care and estate grape selection are just two reasons LDH wines are so unique and iconic. Perhaps the key to producing exceptional wines lies in the oak barrel aging, followed by additional rest in bottles deep in the underground cellars, part of the founder’s master plan.
“For over a century our emotions have been rooted in our love and passion for this land and its harvest.”
