Remírez de Ganuza

Remírez de Ganuza

Remírez de Ganuza has built its reputation on its range of reservas and gran reservas from high altitude vineyards. The selection of quality grapes is at the heart of the bodega’s ethos.

As vineyard estate broker in the 70s and 80s, Fernando Remírez de Ganuza had insider intel on which plots to acquire for the birth of his modern bodega set in Samaniego, Álava.  This new enterprise, est. 1989, now consists of vineyards spanning over 80 hectares sprawled throughout the Sierra Cantabria foothills.  Plots are located near the villages of Samaniego, Leza, Elciego, San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Laguardia and Abalos.  Varietals planted include tempranillo, graciano, garnacha, viura and malvasía.  The average age of the vines are 50 years.  Building on the vision of innovative winemaking for the best expression of the vineyards, José Ramon Urtasun joined the winery in 2010.

Wines are aged in the bodega cellar in French oak barrels, bottled and released several years later while still maturing, with plenty of aging potential left for the future.
