Rico Nuevo

Rico Nuevo

In the north valley of Gredos, the Valle del Alberche, tucked away in the village of Burgohondo (south of Ávila), resides a young winemaker who left his métier as a serious baker in Madrid to take care of his great-grandfather’s old vineyards.

Juan Andrés Martín Pérez, affectionately known as Juanan, launched Rico Nuevo Viticultores in 2018, focusing on inherited, family-owned vineyards (12 hectares) using organic and biodynamic farming practices and regenerative viticulture. The cepas viejas (old vines) inhabit the hills surrounding the village, some at 1000m in altitude.

The name of the winery is a tribute to his great-grandfather, a vine grower and winemaker in the town who was nicknamed Rico Nuevo (new rich, due to his prosperity as a viticultor).

Currently making seven village wines, each bottle is a reflection of four generations of the wisdom and tradition passed down from Juanan’s family.
