The Levante

The Levante

From Jumilla to Alicante, Spain’s southeastern wine corridor is one of those regions that quietly delivers far more character than its reputation might suggest. What ties the whole corridor together is Monastrell and its deep connection to terruño. It’s a grape that thrives where others struggle, turning heat and drought into concentration and character.

Across the Levante, producers are leaning into finesse over weight, highlighting freshness, balance, and a clearer sense of place. Today’s winemakers are pulling back on extraction and oak, aiming for wines that still have that signature intensity, but with more lift, freshness, and drinkability.  Add a renewed focus on crafting quality blancos and the result is a wine region in transition, still deeply Mediterranean, sun-drenched and generous, but increasingly defined by precision, energy, and a new sense of lightness within its natural power.
