J.M. Rivero CZ 1805, Jerez
Regular price $1,400.00This bottle is a sherry treasure and rare, from the oldest sherry house dating back to 1650. CZ is a nod to the founder, Pedro Alonso Cabeza de Aranda y Zarco. The winery was renamed after a marriage to his descendant by Joaquin María Rivero in 1895. At its height in 1855, the bodega was home to over 3,000 botas on four streets - Antona de Dios, Valientes, Clavel and Roa la Bota. The winery was sold in 1991. However, the lineage continues today by a descendant of the founder, Joaquin Rivero Valcarce, who is the proprietor of Bodegas Tradición, a firm that produces exceptional, rare and vintage sherries.
This sherry was bottled in 1965 from an 1805 bota in the Trafalgar solera, named after the battle of Trafalgar in 1805, whose initial botas were recovered after being lost at sea.
A golden sherry - medium-dry with nutty aromas and delicate sweetness (raisins & dates due to the PX blend), balanced by marked acidity, shadows and wisps of an Oloroso spirit, ethereal and deep in its lingering flavors and sensations.
