Carmen Pérez Garrigues
Carmen Pérez Garrigues is the fourth generation of a family of winegrowers and agricultural engineers who have been established since 1930 in the San Rafael meander in Laserna (Rioja Alavesa).
It all began in 1930, when her great-grandfather settled on the property. Decade after decade, his successors, the Pérez Villotas, transformed it into one of the emblematic estates of 20th-century Rioja. Since 1974, linked to the world of wine, they have gained a deep understanding of the site: 97 hectares of old vineyards, surrounded by the Ebro River, which they cultivate organically, respecting the vineyard and its landscape.
Today, under Carmen's direction, Villota offers a full range of estate wines, both white and red. Among them, Viña Gena—one of the first Viñedo Singular wines in Rioja—and Las Anchas, the great classic wine from old vineyards.
"On my ancestors' estate, I take on the project of making wines with the goal of being the bridge between the nature of the vineyard and the pleasure of drinking good, honest wines. I continue a family history of winegrowers, now with the challenge of making the wines that the next generation seeks."
