Monastrell

Monastrell

Native to Spain, this grape is also known as Mourvèdre in France, or Mataro in Australia or California.

It’s mostly planted in southeastern Spain in the province of Murcia with Dos such as Alicante, Jumilla, Bullas and Yecla. 

The wines can be full-bodied, rich, fruity and concentrated, but more recently a few producers are making softer, more balanced wines.  Jam, licorice, spice, and pepper, dark fruits.
