Sara I René

In the storied history of the Priorat wine region in Catalunya, origins of viticulture had been developed by the monks of the Middle Ages who recognized the special Mediterranean terruño as a blessing from heaven above.

Back in the 19th century, plague ravaged the vineyards of Priorat which were ultimately deserted by the vintners. The vineyards remained dormant until the 1980s, when five trailblazing wineries worked together to revitalize the abandoned terraces of old vines to produce their first vintage in 1989.

Partida Bellvisos (beautiful view) was established in 2001 by René Barbier Jr. of Clos Mogador and Sara Pérez of Mas Martinet, heirs to two of the original gang of five wineries. Located in the village of Gratallops, Bellvisos is comprised of 4 hectares of costers (steep, sloping vineyards) nestled by holm oak trees. Pedrer is a north-facing plot within Bellvisos that is made from young vines.

Sara and René recuperated the ninety-year-old vines slowly through organic and biodynamic farming, and continue to focus on sustainability, marrying tradition with innovation.  Together, they aim to produce wines in harmony with nature.
