Santamaría · sensory pleasures · the prodigal wine
Pedro Peciña Gil (of the Hermanos de Peciña bodega) and his wife María Ruiz started this winery in 2011 with the vision of crafting wines of simplicity, with less emphasis on oak barrel aging. They set their sights on the Sonsierra sub-zone near the village of San Vicente. High alt., forty-year-old bush vines are hand-harvested, whole cluster, ten day carbonic maceration with indigenous yeasts, directly pressed into an 80-year-old open concrete vat for six months. Brambly black fruit, effervescent, mountain purity.
