Old cellar masters used to mark special barrels with chalk as a way of noting its special and unusual characteristics which set it apart from the other barrels.  Never marketed or sold, but used as an exemplar to compare the other wines to. From a good vintage, aged 25 months in French oak barrels, plus three years in bottle resting in cellar. Dark fruit, licorice, cinnamon, black pepper, polished tannins – a real tribute to former cellar masters.
